Ampelocissus sikkimensis

This is a plant I have had for many years and can't remember where I got it from. I have previously referred to it as Parthenocissus sikkimensis and it is usually found under that name when it (rarely) appears in nurseries. It has very attractive glossy, evergreen, five-lobed leaves of dark green and can be either a mat-like groundcover or a climber (ht 2-3 m) as it clings onto walls or trellises with aerial roots. It is sometimes known colloquially as Sikkim creeper. It can also grow in a hanging basket or be used to spill over retaining walls. It is best in shade or semi-shade. Its unique foliage is an excellent contrast to other plants. It doesn't really need pruning. I have not found it to be rampageous! It seems to cope quite well with dryness, but is probably lusher if it gets some water.
