Paramongaia weberbaueri

Started by Heinie - South Africa Tuesday, 15 May 2012

I have both the winter as well as the summer flowering Paramongaia weberbaueri. The summer growing bulbs are starting to yellow the leaves and my winter growing bulb has already started growing. I noticed over the weekend that this bulb is getting ready to show me her very first flower. I am very excited because none of these very rare bulbs have flowered yet. I hope to show you a photos soon. Heinie

That sounds really interesting, Heinie. I have never heard of this bulb before! Look forward to seeing your photo of it! Deirdre

Deirdre, the flower resembles the shape of a daffodil but is much larger and yellow. The flower size can apparently be as big as 240mm measured across. I do not think that the first flower will reach that size yet but any size will be fine with me. I attach a photo of a group of plants in flower from a friend here in South Africa.

That is an amazing flower, Heinie. I will look out for it here but I have never seen it. Deirdre
