"Newcastle Wildflower Nursery"

Started by Eric - 2428 Saturday, 04 October 2014
Hi all, five years since moving to the NSW mid north coast I"ve finally found a native nursery which is within driving distance! Unfortunately for me living in Pacific Palms it is a long drive, but it"s worth it. It"s called Newcastle Wildflower Nursery and it is at 260 Lake Rd. Glendale. I discovered it quite by accident having gone down that way for another reason and saw the sign by the road. They have a fantastic range of plants, Many of which I haven"t seen anywhere in the nurseries near me. Wish someone would open a native nursery in Forster! This one reminds me a bit of the Cranebrook Native Nursery I used to drive out to when I lived in Sydney, or the Sydney Wildflower Nursery at Heathcote which they tell me they are not associated with.

Thanks for that Eric. That nursery is in the iGarden Local Nurseries list but since it is more than 100km from your location it wouldn"t have been obvious. Anyway it is good to get feedback about an organisation - especially if you have to go some distance!

Hi Deirdre, I must admit to not having clicked to look at nurseries further than 100km away until you just mentioned it! Have had a good look through the list now. I notice Sydney Wildflower Nursery at Heathcote as well as Annangrove Grevilleas at Kenthurst and Cranebrook Native Nursery are not listed. They are all excellent nurseries which I have visited in the past. I"m pretty sure Sydney Wildflower Nursery at Heathcote is still in operation but I"m not sure about the others are you? If they are then they are certainly worth listing. Cranebrook in fact was probably my pick of the best native nursery that I have so far seen, only downside was they didn"t have tubestock like the others did. Having said that they are all excellent nurseries, or should I say were when I last visited.

Sydney Wildflower Nursery at Heathcote and Cranebrook Native Nursery were actually both listed. I have now added Annangrove Grevilleas. You may not see them because the system only lets you see the nearest 50. Thanks for your comments.

The Wildflower Place, 453 The Entrance Rd Erina (north Gosford) is my native nursery of choice for the Central Coast. They keep tube stock, a wide range of plants and the staff are ready to share a wealth of knowledge. I always find Bronwyn especially helpful.

If Eric ever comes to Sydney, the Royal Botanic Gardens has the most amazing selection of native plants that have been propagated by The Growing Friends...they are volunteers. Also other plants at very reasonable cost!! Also if you become a Friend of the RBG ...you get a discount, its worth it!!..Suzanne 2107.
