Cynoglossum amabile

Cynoglossum amabile

Cynonoglossum amabile (ht 50cm) is colloquially called Chinese forget-me-not and it has larger, more intensely coloured flowers than the usual blue forget-me-not Myosotis sylvatica, over a longer time period and in greater profusion - I think it is a superior plant. It does also self-seeds, but not quite to the same extent as Myosotis. There are also white and pink forms of it. It grows best in sun or part-shade, in reasonable (but not overly rich) soil. Trim off spent flowers occasionally to encourage more blooms. Sometimes the plants will last for several seasons. It is pretty in any garden setting with other spring blooms, as well as in a vase. I particularly like it with lime-coloured flowers and leaves of early spring - such as Euphorbia and Nicotiana langsdorffii. Cynoglossum belongs to the family Boraginaceae, and comes from East Asia.

Best grown from seed.
